choirs, tryouts and a secret performace

Had a hectic week… I spent two days auditioning for the vocal orchestra. We are going on a UK tour later this year, and some of the old choir couldn’t make it. So instead of gradually replacing people one by one and trying make the new voices fit into the old format, I’ve decided to totally re-work the whole project. Over the next 6 weeks we’ll be experimenting and developing an entirely new show based around the new talent in the choir. I’m excited about trying some new ideas!

On Saturday I went to Sadlers Wells to lead a beatbox session for Youth Music Voices, a 100-strong choir of 12-18 year olds selected from across the country as part of the Cultural Olympiad. I was amazed by the group - I was half expecting to meet a load of supercilious, classically trained young things but they were a real mix of backgrounds. They were so enthusiastic… In a month’s time I’ll be back there, working with a smaller group of them to create a beatboxing element to include in their repertoire.

Then on Sunday I played a ’secret show’ with DJ Yoda at Vibe Bar in Brick Lane… we needed to warm up the show before Bestival… a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon :)

Got today off then I’m of to Rhodes for 3 days for a private gig, so I’m signing out.. See you when I get back from Bestival!
