Dear Shlomo, loved your Concert tonight (Feb 19th). Brilliant.

Love to join a workshop. I make percussion sounds with my voice, drum and bass (jazz-like), do sax, muted trumpet & trombone, play drums. The sample on youtube was meant to be a bit of comedy and the sound is not the best...

Yo Shlo,

Have you ever considered doing a full out world tour with the Vocal Orchestra? I'm sure I can speak on behalf of the beatboxers over in the states that we're dying to get you over here for some shows.

I'd love to see you do a gig with Newton Faulkner. The combination of his guitar skills and your vocal effects would be quite something!

A direct question (forgive me for my impoliteness)

What would it take to get your help for African Darfur refugees in Tel Aviv?

saw shlomo & orch. at womad - we took our 13 & 15 yr old sons and a 15 yr old friend. Missed half of Peter Gabriel in order to get to front of crowd and it was well worth it!! All of us agreed it was most entertaining thing at womad (and there is so much good stuff there). Lots of v excited kids in audience. We agreed that you should be doing a Jamie Oliver and it looks like you are already, so good for you. You are a natural teacher (we saw Malmesbury kids gig and workshop too). Brilliant for connecting lots of different people - Humour + music is an irresistible combination. We liked the smile that kept spreading across your face as if you couldn't believe how excited everyone was. Wish your projects all success, please keep working at opening kids minds to as many different kinds of music as poss, Britain puts music and people in boxes too much and kids learn early to close their minds. Charlie Winston (also at Womad) found the same thing and ended up in France. He beatboxes a bit too, but not half as well, point is he is open to mixing different types of music and people - looks like a movement is forming!

Paavo on ""Shlomo's Mouth" and questions."

I just happen to be finally listening through my songlines bonus CD from issue number 59 and happened to come across your performance of "Shlomo's Mouth" at Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2007. Wow! I reckon you've heard it all before but I am completely gob-smacked!

Now I don't want to get carried away and shower you with sycophantic praise but I am very curious about the way you do things.

I guess the first question that springs to mind is what loop sampler do you use? Whatever you do, you seem to be able to use it with great spontaneity!

The other thing I'm really curious about is the way you improvise these things. Is it entirely organic and on the spot or do you come to a show with a basic idea in your head and just improvise around it?

The thing I find remarkable about that performance of "Shlomo's mouth" is the way you construct a layered piece out of multi-bar phrases perhaps 4 or more bars long. For something completely improvised on the spot it has richness of production that humbles a month long studio project!

I guess the reason about the gear you use is because I'm tempted to get a hold of a Dynamic mic or three and a loop sampler and do some home improvisation with the kids! It sounds like a lot of fun!

We're learning piano too but that seems like a lot more hard work, but rewarding all the same.

cheers,

Paavo.

I was at Knockengorroch Festival at the weekend and took my camera especially to film Shlomo.

I guess I should probably take some time off from filming to relax and enjoy myself but I enjoy my job and Shlomo's beatboxing is too good not to be captured!

I filmed the entire set and am hoping that Shlo will be cool about me putting it on YouTube. It's a lot better quality than the usual stuff that's filmed with a camera phone!

Here is a link to the first clip I have uploaded - the last track of the set, which was a drum and bass remix of 'Shlomo's Mouth' and had the crowd jumping about like loonies!

...more to follow, including the unofficial Beatbox World Record attempt made at the festival!

I went to see Shlomo and the beat box orchestra in Canterbury last night and they were absolutely amazing, again, it was such a small and personal gig, we were so pleased, we actually got to meet everyone!!
The first time we saw the orchestra was at Glasto 2008, under the name Music by unconventional means, I thought, this sounds like something I might enjoy, boy was I right! the gig was so good, everyone that was there was dancing and bouncing, even Shlo was bouncing around the stage with an energy that you can't fake. Bellatrix had a scratching match with Dj Yoda, that was f#@%ing brilliant!! She is totally inspirational to all! I definitely will be going to to more Shlomo gigs!!! i have the DVD but I can't wait for the CD Guys!!

Saw Shlomo at the Big Chill 2007 and was amazed, had to see him again. Booked tickets for Fri 17th at South Bank, for boyfreind's birthday. Spent whole time with jaw literally on the floor in awe of performers. I have never been so impressed. We are training to be teachers and both find unconventional/non traditional means of expression incredibly inspiring, Shlomo, Fyfe, MC Zani and the vocal orchestra all capture this perfectly. You should all feel extremely proud, wondered whether you would do a booking at a primary school?
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHLO, ENJOY IT!!! (",)

Hey,

Just wanted to say hi! Am coming down to London Town to catch the gig at the South Bank Centre next Friday, and really looking forward to it.

Love what you do, and really interested in your projects.. Unfortunately, I have a complete inability to beatbox, but do a lot of a cappella stuff (set up a 5-piece group recently) and some stuff with my loop too. It's a Boss RC-20XL, and I love it despite it being a little basic.. I'd love to get a newer station which presents more possibilities, but don't know where to start..

Anyway, yeah. Sorry for going on!
Hope all goes well with 'Orchestra tour. See you in London!

Dear Mr Shlomo
My dear lady wife and I were lucky enough to watch your set with DJ Yoda in April. We'd really like to see your UK tour with the Vocal Orchestra but my wife is due to give birth in about 4 days. As we now live in Cardiff (we've just moved from London), please could you re-organise your tour to play a date in South Wales - that way we might be able to get a baby sitter and come along. If you could make this possible I will try to convince my wife that we should call our baby Shlomo (rather than the Fonz) and raise him/her as a beatboxer. RespecK.....

Just thought Id let you know you have converted me to the world of beatboxing!
We went up to the park at glasto, for the 'very special guests' expecting a bit of rock or indie music. Turned out things were running a bit behind at the park, and im glad it was, or we would never have discovered shlomo!
I was totally amazed by yours and the choirs talents, and I have been telling anyone who will listen!
It was one of the real highlights of our festival, I absolutely loved it!
Glad to see you are coming to belfast, I will definately be there, cant wait.
good luck with all your future projects and see you in October x

I took your advice about the Jam Man sampler, it's wicked. The missus and I have been experimenting with it, laying down beatbox with some of the rounds she uses with the school kids.

We're thinking of taking it to our open mic night at the local pub. We'll have to get some practice in first though.
